Traditional belgium food

Belgium is a country with a lot of traditional food. The most famous one that everybody knows are our fries. A first mistake we have to take out the world is that in English we do say French fries but it has nothing to do with the country France. French fries comes from the verb to french which means you cut the potato ‘lengthwise’.

These fries are eaten with several other traditional Belgian food:

Fries with stew, Fries with meatballs in tomato sauce, Fries with mussels, … But something the citizens of Belgium really like and mostly do 1-2 times a week is to go to the ‘frituur’. A frituur is a small shop that sells fries with several sauces and people also order than some kind of meat with it like, curryworst, bicky burger, boulette,… This they take home to eat it together with family or friends or they eat at the frituur.

When you visit Belgium, you will find these ‘frituren’ on almost every corner of the city, towns, … And that’s why it’s a must to try this if you visit Belgium!

Enough about fries, it’s making me hungry J Another very famous thing that Belgium is known of is our chocolate! Especially our pralines are famous and a must try for every tourist. In every major city you will find shops where you find a lot of varieties of pralines: brown chocolate, black, chocolate, white chocolate, pralines with nuts,…

The list of traditional Belgian food is big but 1 more I would like to give to you are our waffles! Indeed, I wrote it in plural because we have 2 types: Brussel waffles and Liege waffles. Both are delicious with a bit of whip cream and vanilla ice on or just some powder sugar or whatever you prefer on it 🙂
