Traditional food

The tastes of Slovenia comes mostly from nature: vegetables from gardens, grains from local fields, wild food from green nature, fruit from the orchards and forests of the 3 most wooded country in Europe, everything prepared traditionally, meat dishes and dairy goods from pastures, and honey produced by Slovenian honeybees. Beside Slovenian beautiful nature, country has to offer a lot of good food also. We have a lot of food on spoon, that taste really good.

Other good one is called richet which is also a spoon dish. It is a traditional Slovenian, Croatian, Austrian and Bavarian dish that is made from pot barley, beans, potatoes, carrots, parsley, celery, leeks, tomatoes, onions, and garlic and usually has also a substantial amount of cured pork in it. It is kind off as a thick soup.

Idrijskizlikrofi are also good traditional food to try with their unique taste you sure going to like it.Traditionally prepared in western Slovenia, the town Idrija, this popular pasta dish can be described as a variety of ravioli. Žlikrofi are made with two layers of thin pasta dough wrapped around the filling, and apart from their charming shape resembling a bicorne hat, their authentic potato filling is even more distinctive.

At the end the most famous Slovenian dish is Carniolan sausage prepared with special recipe and usually eaten with Sauerkraut. The Carniolan sausage (Kranjska klobasa) represents a Slovene culinary specialty that can be produced by no more than 15 Slovene producers that have obtained a certificate for its production. As a traditional food product, it is protected by geographical indication in the country of origin and represents a symbol of cultural heritage that Slovenes are justifiably proud of. Made using the finest pork and bacon with added sodium nitrite and seasoned solely with garlic and pepper, the Carniolan sausage is held together with a wooden skewer. The sausage is a reddish brown colour on the surface and bears a faint scent of smoke; in cross-section, the meat is pinkish red, while the bacon is a creamy white colour and not dissolved. The texture is taut, crunchy and juicy, with a full aroma that is characteristic of desalinated, specifically seasoned and smoked pork.

Also, one thing Slovenia is famous about is honey bees. We make a lot of honey.Slovenians have always been a nation of beekeepers. We are the only European Union member state, which has protected its own autochthonous honey bee, which means that it is prohibited to breed other races of honey bees.  It is a well-known fact that it has a beneficial influence on our health as it works against inflammation and microbes and helps us to relieve our daily troubles. It can be good used also in kitchens as it gives dishes a special aroma.
